My studio always seems to be a work in progress, and here is the state as of October 2003. It has changed somewhat since then, and I'll post pictures of that soon. The first picture is of the main keyboard console, which I built myself. The large monitors are Mackie HR824's, and the smaller monitors are Yamaha MS101's, to simulate a boombox for checking mixes.![]() Pictured below are, from left to right, one of my synth racks, the mixer/fx station, and to the right, what I call my channel strip/mastering rack. The mixers are Tascam DM-24's, along with a couple Mackie LM-3204's I use as submixers. I built the mixer console myself, and my wife did the wood staining and finishing. The mixer station is on wheels, so it can easily be pulled forward, allowing access behind it for cabling. Also, this makes it possible to position it in the room so that one can mix without leaving the sweet spot. The top left rack above the mixers contains a BBE 862, Aphex 622 gate, Digitech RDS 1900 delay, TC Electronic 1210 Spatial Expander/Chorus, and Kurzweil Rumour and Mangler. The top left rack holds a Yamaha REV5, Lexicon PCM-81 and PCM-91, and TC Electronic M2000 and M3000. The lower left rack holds my newest additions to the studio, a couple DBX 160X's, and a F-900A rack holding four Aphex Expressor modules, two DBX 903 compressors, two DBX 904 gates, and a 929 noise reduction module (on its way). The center cubby holes hold two ART DI/O 96k converters, two Groove Tubes DITTO tube DI's, and a couple channels of Jensen DI's. The right lower rack contains the studio's patchbays. ![]() I call the rack pictured below my mastering/channel strip rack. From the top it features two Empirical Labs Distressors, a Grace 201 preamp, Urei 546 parametric EQ modified by Audio Upgrades, Aphex Compellor also modified by Audio Upgrades, Benchmark DAC-1 AD converter, DBX Quantum I mastering processor, Waves L2 Ultramaximizer, Motu 308 and two 2408mkII's, Lucid CLKx6 word clock distribution, Aardvark AardSync II, Motu MTP II, and below that out of the picture is my Panasonic SV-3700 DAT and Nakamichi MR-1 cassette deck. ![]() |
